of August ANC Meeting
The
monthly meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission
3E was called to order at 7:45 PM by Chairperson Diskan,
with Commissioners DiBiase, McNamara and Posniak in
attendance.
ANC
Business/Actions
The
minutes of the June 14, 2000 meeting were unanimously
approved.
The
Treasurer's 2nd Quarter report was unanimously approved
and the finalized version of the June monthly report
was re-approved unanimously. The Treasurer's July/August
monthly report was unanimously approved and the following
checks were unanimously approved. (Copies of all reports
are attached to this document.)

A
resolution requesting a traffic light at the corner
of Nebraska Ave. and Chesapeake St., NW was unanimously
approved.
A
resolution urging the Tenleytown Historical Society
to withdraw their application for historic designation
of the Tenleytown Firehouse and if the application is
not withdrawn to urge the Historic Preservation Review
Board to countermand the decision of the Chief of the
Historic Preservation Division, Building and Land Regulation
Administration, Department of Consumer and Regulatory
Affairs to accept the application, and that the Board,
instead, refuse to set a hearing and instruct the official
in question to direct the Administration's Permit Processing
Division to remove the "Landmark Hold" on
the subject property.
Announcements
Commissioner
Posniak announced that a dilapidated home on Warren
St., NW has been purchased and the new owners are rehabilitating
the property.
Commissioner
Diskan announced that the public library is looking
for volunteers to train adults on computers; the Historic
District Protection Act is being discussed in City Council
Chambers August 26th at 10 AM; a joint meeting with
ANC 3F will be taking place either the 11th or 12th
of September at Wilson HS; the petition period to run
for an ANC commission seat is August 9th thru September
9, 2000 and the ANC computer has been successfully installed
at Tenleytown Library.
Marvin
Tevsky gave research information about the owners of
the new tower located on 41st St., NW and stated that
Mr. Sainson from the Office of Project Management would
be at the September 26th meeting at Tenleytown Library.
Book
by Judith Beck Helm about Tenleytown is again available
for purchase.
Diane
Walther announced a Walther Family Reunion September
23-24th.
Jean
Pablo announced that she has received feedback on Eldebrook
Cemetery.
Police
Lt.
Carter brought copies of PSA 202's newsletter and gave
the following information:
· Traffic plans for the whole city are currently
being done.
· His email is mpdspsa202@netscape.net.
· Beginning the 15th of August 20 officers will
be out on the street in the 2nd District
· Lt. Lancanao will provide child safety seat
inspection/installation 282-0050.
· Det. Donna Wilson is looking for information
concerning two men who knock on doors looking for work.
· August is children awareness month.
· The non-emergency number for PSA 202 is 727-1010
or city wide 311.

Forum
Kay
McClennon would like ANC to address issue of trash behind
alley at 4500 Wisconsin Ave.
Residents
are getting together to request a stop sign at Albemarle
St. and 39th St., NW.
Matt
Havic would like ANC to address the fact that Garcia's
trash truck is tearing up green space in the 4400 block
of Wisconsin while collecting trash.
Mr.
Scott reminded everyone that the City Council Primaries
are on September 9, 2000.
Carolyn
Lawrence stated the neighbors have a problem with the
Round Table Restaurant and would like to speak with
other neighbors who share these problems.
A
new art store Artwares has opened up at 4904 Wisconsin
Avenue.
Presentations
Mr.
Phil Barrenger presented a petition of approximately
50 signatures from residents, who live near the intersection
of Chesapeake St. and Nebraska Ave., NW and who would
like a traffic light installed at that intersection.
Mr. Tom Bouder, a teacher at Wilson HS spoke in support
of the traffic light. The Commissioners proposed a motion
that ANC 3E request a traffic light at the corner of
Chesapeake and Nebraska and the motion was unanimously
approved.
The
Commissioners opened a discussion concerning the Historic
Landmark Designation (HDL) currently being sought for
the Tenleytown Fire Department by the Tenleytown Historical
Society. The discussion that followed included comment
from Marvin Tevsky that he had formed a taskforce to
work with the Fire Department on the current building
and several neighbors voiced there opinion concerning
the HLD. Jean Pablo, representing Tenleytown Historical
Society, also gave a presentation stating their arguments
for HLD. After a great deal of discussion the Commissioners
moved to propose a resolution that would urge the applicant
(Tenleytown Historical Society) to withdraw the application;
