for May ANC Meeting
The
monthly meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission
3E was called to order at 7:45 PM by Chairperson Diskan,
with Commissioners DiBiase, McNamara and Posniak in
attendance.
ANC
Business/Actions
The
minutes of the April 13, 2000 were amended to include
a statement from Mr. Vincent
if anyone had not
received their tax notice then the deadline would be
moved to accommodate them. The minutes were unanimously
approved with this amendment.
The
treasurer's April report was unanimously approved.
The
commissioners did not oppose the liquor license renewal
for Babe's Billiards.
Announcements
Ken
Ellerby announced the Friendship-Tenley Citizens Assoc.
meeting May 23rd, 7:30 PM at Tenleytown Library.
Ann
Beurnel announced the May Fair at Friendship Park on
May 20th from 10-3.
Mr.
Scott reminded everyone of the special election on June
27th concerning the school board.
Commissioner
Diskan announced the May 13th Hazardous waste collection
in the district.
Commissioner
DiBiase announced the operation of the ANC's web site
at ANC3e.org.
Moradian
Khosrow announced an art class for seniors at St. Albans
and St. Columba's during the summer.
2nd
District Police
Sgt.
Ladson gave the neighborhood crime update for the month
and announced the reintroduction of the PSA 202 monthly
newsletter.
Open
Forum
Cathy
Wiss updated the Commissioner4s on the negotiations
between the Tenleytown Neighbors Association and Holladay
developers concerning the proposed construction on Albermarle
and Nebraska. Tenleytown Neighbors rejected the new
plans of 17 town homes proposed by Holladay and stated
they have the support of the Office of Planning. Tenleytown
Neighbors meet June 1 at the Tenleytown Library.
Steven
Schwartz of the Western Ave Citizens Association updated
the commissioners on the traffic impact of the development
at Friendship Heights and the traffic restrictions in
Maryland that funnels traffic on specific streets in
the district. Mr. Schwartz would like the ANC to write
a letter to the Mayor and other parties urging them
to use their leverage to facilitate Maryland changing
their traffic restrictions.
Commissioner
Posniak stated that the DC Council voted a metro subsidy
of 2.5 million and did not apportion any monies for
the N-8 route.
Grant
Presentation
Friends
of Tait Park asked for a grant of $1,000 to rejuvenate
and maintain Tait Park located at 48th & Ellicott
Street, NW. Western Ave. Citizens Assoc supported their
grant application.
AU
Park Citizens Association asked for a grant of $400
to pay for the production and distribution of their
Street Smart Newsletter.
Chevy
Chase Playground requested a grant of $1,000 to help
pay for continuing ground maintenance at the park located
at Livingston St. and 41st St., NW.
Friends
of Turtle Park requested a grant of $1,000 to help pay
for landscaping around the newly renovated tennis court
entrance. The park is located on Van Ness St. at 45th
ST., NW.
Presentations
Neil
Albert and Neil Rodgers of the Dept. of Parks and Recreation
gave a presentation about the District's summer program
and the maintenance programs Parks and Recs are initiating.
The department has signed grass-cutting contracts for
each ward and they are separating the maintenance of
ball fields and regular fields. The department is also
initiating a program to develop specific sites for set
ball programs. They are also involved in the USDA summer
feeding program. Mr. Rodgers also addressed the removal
of playground equipment and the factors that caused
the facilities to be without equipment for an extended
period.
Alvin
McNeil manager of WMATA's Plan Development gave a presentation
concerning the development of the Friendship Heights
bus garage. Mr. McNeil stated there are four proposals
on the table and all of the proposals are mixed use.
The selection of a developer will take place in the
fall of 2000 and that will give the developer the right
to present his plans to the community and from there
the developer will have to follow the traditional paths
to completion of the development.
With
there being no further business the meeting was adjourned
at 9:55 PM.
